The American people deserve the truth when it comes to military action – but right now, we’re being kept in the dark. Even as the Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs, I haven’t received a full intelligence briefing on the recent strikes in Iran. What’s more, we’ve received conflicting information about why it happened and what the outcome was.
Sound familiar?
It should – this is a glaring callback to the run-up to the Iraq War, when misleading intelligence and secrecy led us into disaster.
If there’s an emergency that threatens American lives, Congress should be called in immediately. I don’t care if it’s a weekend, a holiday, or a district work period — I’ll be there. But making decisions that could spark another war, without clear intelligence and without Congressional oversight? That’s reckless and unconstitutional.
It’s part of a bigger problem: This administration keeps undermining checks and balances, and in the process, weakening our national security. I’ve seen it firsthand: experts with critical technology and cybersecurity skills have been pushed out of our federal agencies. Meanwhile, countries like Iran are building world-class cyber, AI, and drone programs.
We can’t afford to be caught off guard — not militarily, and not technologically.
