You can now listen to the latest episode of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Strong Talk podcast, “From Pain to Purpose: Transforming Lived Experience Into Suicide Prevention Advocacy.” Strong Talk is a podcast series hosted by AFSP Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement Victor (Vic) Armstrong, MSW. In this episode, Vic speaks with Founder and Executive Director of Wellness Action Recovery, Inc., Fonda Bryant, about her history with suicidality, and how lived experience has informed her suicide prevention advocacy and education efforts.

As a certified trainer with QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Institute, Fonda has trained thousands globally to become certified trainers like herself. In 2020, she founded Wellness Action Recovery, Inc., a nonprofit promoting mental wellness and recovery through positive action. Fonda was recognized for her outstanding contributions when she received the 2023 Recovery Champion Award, and was also named the 2021 Nexstar National Remarkable Woman. Her advocacy spans national interviews, a PBS documentary, and features in the Washington Post, Boston Herald, and People of Charlotte magazine. Fonda's efforts to prevent suicide in parking decks led to legislation, including House Bill 858 and State Bill S.970. Whether through training, signage initiatives, or media appearances, Fonda is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and fostering a supportive community.
