TELL THE U.S. SENATE: We can’t afford to take Trump at his word when he says he doesn’t want a war with Iran. Sign the petition today, and urge the Senate to pass a War Powers Resolution to block Trump from starting a new war in the Middle East.
Hi, The ceasefire between Iran and Israel appears to be holding steady after a week of escalating tensions and missile strikes. That should be celebrated. But we can’t let the rest of this crisis be swept under the rug. Israel still started a war without provocation. Donald Trump still illegally bombed Iran. And hundreds of bloodthirsty warhawks in Congress still rattled their sabers and called for us to join the war. We know we can’t trust a single word out of Donald Trump’s mouth. He has already been caught lying about the success of his illegal missile strikes.1 Which is why — even with a tentative ceasefire in place — we MUST establish safeguards to stop him from trying to drag us into war again. In the next 24 hours, Sen. Tim Kaine’s War Powers Resolution, making clear that Trump has no authority to take the country to war with Iran, is expected to be voted on in the Senate. Sign the petition: Call on the Senate to block Trump from starting a new war in the Middle East. We’ve seen this story before, friends. In 2002, the drums of war were everywhere. Politicians and pundits alike told us how going to war with Iraq was “a necessity.” How they posed “an existential threat to the world.” Anyone who opposed this was labeled unpatriotic. That same rhetoric is being used against us today. But the anti-war movement is bigger and stronger now. And more of our elected officials are seeing through the lies. This War Powers Resolution is a winnable one. And we can keep Trump and his cronies in check, but only if we make our voices heard together. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
