Dear John,

What a week this has been! The Supreme Court announced groundbreaking decisions to protect LGBTQ people from employment discrimination, preserve California’s sanctuary state law, and uphold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the U.S.—all while people across the country continue to march in support of Black Lives Matter and demand systemic change, including through yesterday’s powerful actions commemorating Juneteenth. Read AFSC's statement on DACA.

Please join us today and tomorrow for the digital Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on Washington as we build on the momentum of this historic week and demand moral leadership from those in power to end systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, and militarism. Attend the online event.

Here are this week’s resources to help you stay informed and support your activism.

The Supreme Court just upheld DACA. Now it's time for Congress to act: Tell your senators to provide permanent protections for DACA recipients and create a roadmap to citizenship for all immigrants.

'We won.': DACA recipients overwhelmed by surprise Supreme Court victory: "There's already so many tears that have been shed. Nobody can believe it," says Itzel Hernandez, a DACA recipient and AFSC staff member. (USA Today)

The Poor People's Campaign: Worthy of Quaker support then and now: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. sparked this campaign more than 50 years ago, and thousands more carried this struggle forward. It is now our task to see it through, writes AFSC’s Joyce Ajlouny. (Penn Capital-Star)

COVID-19 cases are rising sharply in U.S. prisons, and I'm worried about my father: We must call on governors and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to free people from prisons, jails, and detention centers in this pandemic, writes Kharon Benson.

Thank you to everyone who has take action to oppose Israeli annexation of the West Bank: If you haven’t already, tell Congress to oppose annexation of Palestinian land, which would violate international law, lead to increased tensions and violence, and further deny Palestinian rights.

Supreme Court rejects Trump administration's bid to void California sanctuary state law: The law—which limits cooperation between local police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement—has had a significant impact, says AFSC’s Pedro Rios. (KPBS)
