Advisory: Final Community Blood Lead Testing Event Scheduled by Public Health

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been offering free blood lead testing at community events in neighborhoods impacted by the Palisades and Eaton fires. These efforts were done to help residents better understand their potential lead exposure and take steps to protect their health. 

Since the launch of this initiative, Public Health has screened more than 1,500 adults and children at community events. To date, all but seven test results have been below the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) blood lead reference value (BLRV) of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL), indicating no elevated blood lead levels among the vast majority of those tested. Public Health will host one final community blood lead testing event this Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Altadena Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All residents from the fire-impacted areas are encouraged to take advantage of this free, walk-in opportunity.

Continued Free Blood Lead Testing Available Through December 2025

Starting in July 2025, residents will still be able to receive free blood lead testing through December 2025 through the following two options:

1. Visit Your Medical Provider
   • Ask your doctor for a blood lead test.
   • Testing is covered by most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal.
2. Schedule a Free Blood Lead Test at a Quest Lab
   • Call 1-800-LA-4-LEAD to request a free appointment.
   • Testing is simple, confidential, and convenient.
