Dear John,

These are turbulent times. Seismic shifts in geopolitics, despotism in the White House, brewing political revolts in Westminster – and that’s just this week.

I’ll be headed to Byline Festival ([link removed]) next month, organised by the independent journalists behind Byline Times. I’ll be there with Open Britain CEO Mark Kieran, where we’ll convene with a load of smart people to try and make some sense of everything going on – and bend some ears about democratic renewal.

There’s panels on climate, democracy, journalism, global conflict, big tech and more. I’ll be doing interviews with some authors you may know, and of course there’s workshops, comedy, music, food and drinks (it is a festival, after all).

I hope you can join Mark and I from July 11-13th at Keele University – that’s just an hour and a half from London and not far at all from Manchester or Liverpool.
