It’s been difficult to keep up with everything that’s in this “big, beautiful” GOP budget bill — and to be frank, there are too many bad elements of the bill to fit into one email.
But I’m sharing a list below of five crazy facts about this bill that Virginians should know right now. If this bill passes — and it could be up for a vote in the Senate in a matter of days — here’s what’s at stake:
Fact #1:
Thousands of Virginians would lose their health insurance due to the massive cuts to Medicaid and the cuts to the tax breaks that help Virginians afford insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
Fact #2:
Over 200,000 Virginians — including kids — would lose access to SNAP, an essential nutrition assistance program that helps families access healthy foods.
Fact #3:
It would roll back key provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act that are creating tens of thousands of jobs in the Commonwealth and helping to lower our energy bills.
Fact #4:
Not only would the bill cut key programs for working families, it would raise taxes for these families, too, while cutting taxes for the super wealthy.
Fact #5:
Despite all these insane cuts, the bill would actually ADD $3.8 trillion to the deficit (which is one of the reasons we’re seeing fighting between different factions in the Republican party right now).
