Each summer, millions of birds from across the globe return to one of the most vital nesting and breeding grounds left on Earth: the Western Arctic which includes world renowned, ecologically important areas like Teshekpuk Lake. This sweeping expanse of wetlands, tundra and shrublands provides irreplaceable habitat for species like yellow-billed loons, dunlins, and brant geese—and it’s facing a grave threat.
The Trump administration just announced plans to repeal protections that safeguard this essential bird habitat and open the door to destructive fossil fuel drilling.
This region isn’t just a birder’s dream. It’s a globally important ecosystem, home to polar bears, caribou, and Indigenous communities who have relied on these lands for generations. Weakening protections in the Western Arctic endangers us all, as the region is warming at four times the global average, accelerating the climate crisis and amplifying its far-reaching consequences.
We have two actions for you to take, and less than a week to respond.
