A dangerous election denier is on track to be a federal judge. 

Emil Bove was Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and at the Department of Justice, he has served as Trump’s chief enforcer. Most importantly to Trump, Bove is also a true believer in the Big Lie, which is exactly why Trump wants him on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

As the recent confirmation hearings demonstrated, Bove should never be confirmed to the federal bench. He lacks judicial temperament and has been criticized for his professional ethics.

At the Department of Justice, he oversaw the mass firings of civil servants who refused to do Trump’s bidding. He ordered federal prosecutors to discuss criminal charges against the Mayor of New York City and threatened retribution against those who wouldn’t comply. According to one DOJ official, he told government lawyers they “would need to consider telling the courts ‘fuck you’ and ignore any such court order.”

Any one of these actions would justify rejecting his nomination. But under questioning from Democratic Sen. Peter Welch, Bove provided an even more urgent reason why he should never ascend to the federal bench.
