Dear Friend,
The Republican Big Betrayal Bill is headed for a Senate vote later this
week. And guess what? They’re still trying to sneak in a massive private
school voucher scheme disguised as the “Educational Choice for Children
Act” (ECCA). [ [link removed]- ] It’s a bad deal for kids, families, and public schools.
Let’s be clear: ECCA is a tax shelter for billionaires, not a lifeline for
students. This voucher scam will hand out up to $4 billion a year in tax
credits to the wealthiest Americans who donate to “scholarship granting
organizations.” [ [link removed]- ] These organizations then funnel that money into
private school vouchers, draining resources from the public schools that
the vast majority of families rely on.
This is on top of the trillions of dollars in tax cuts billionaires are
getting in this package, paid for by slashing our health care and
nutrition assistance.
[1]SIGN NOW: Tell your U.S. Senators to vote NO on this scheme to transfer
public school funds to private schools!
This voucher provision rewards donors with 100% tax credits, up to 10% of
their income, on cash or stock donations. That’s not help for working
parents. That’s a payday for the rich, wrapped in the language of
“choice.”
Even worse, the Senate stripped away previous protections. Private schools
getting voucher dollars are no longer barred from discriminating against
children with disabilities. [ [link removed]- ][ [link removed]- ] The bill now says almost nothing about
oversight or accountability. It’s a free-for-all for the wealthy.
[2]Our kids deserve fully funded public schools, not billionaire tax
breaks. SIGN NOW!
This bill takes money from classrooms and funnels it to wealthy private
schools, many of which can pick and choose which kids they accept. That’s
not equity. That’s exploitation.
It’s up to us to stop this. Sign the letter today and forward this email
to 5 friends. Let’s make sure Congress hears us loud and clear: No tax
breaks for billionaires on the backs of our kids.
In solidarity,
