If there aren’t enough food inspectors to inspect your favorite restaurants, you’re going to get food poisoning more often.
If there aren’t enough gun shop inspectors to check whether gun dealers are following the law, more guns will be sold to criminals, and more illegal guns will flood into our neighborhoods.
The Trump administration just unveiled plans to eliminate 541 of the estimated 800 inspectors responsible for determining whether federally licensed gun dealers are following the law.
Inspectors within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are responsible for enforcing federal law and regulations that keep guns away from traffickers, straw purchasers, criminals, and people with severe mental illness. By gutting the already short-staffed inspection program, the Trump administration is giving rogue gun dealers permission to break the law.
With federal law enforcement being gutted, the PA State Police must step up to enforce the law in our state. The PA State Police already have the authority to ensure licensed gun dealers follow the law and to take action when they don't.
