Dear John,

I was one of six West Virginians arrested at Senator Capito’s office yesterday.

I chose to sit in at the senator’s office because I am someone who has relied on Medicaid. In 2019, I gave birth to my daughter, born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). She required extensive procedures and care totaling in excess of one million dollars. Medicaid covered every bit of it.

This week the Senate may vote on a bill that would kick 75,000 West Virginians off Medicaid to fund more tax cuts for the rich. Call Senator Capito TODAY and tell her to vote “NO”: 304-347-5372

This week Senator Capito must decide if billionaires are more important than our children.

My story is not unique. 1 in 100,000 children in the United States is born with HLHS. 1 in 5 people have a chance of having a child with congenital heart disease. This care is intensive and expensive, and had it not been for Medicaid, we wouldn’t have received the care we needed.

The Budget Reconciliation Bill seeks, among other things, to cut funding to Medicaid. This will close several rural hospitals in West Virginia, make it harder for folks who are dual enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid to access care, and will further increase the financial burden already put upon low-income West Virginia families. Healthcare should be accessible to all, and this bill takes us in exactly the wrong direction.

Senator Capito needs to hear your voice. Tell her to vote NO on this bill which will hurt tens of thousands of West Virginians: 304-347-5372.
