INDIANAPOLIS – All of Indiana’s public higher education institutions have
committed to tuition freezes, the Braun administration announced Tuesday.

Gov. Mike Braun said the move involves all 15 of Indiana’s public colleges and
universities and their various regional campuses.

The institutions agreed to keep tuition and mandatory fees flat for in-state
undergraduate students for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years. Braun
had requested a 0% increase last month and challenged the schools to “eliminate
redundancies and identify ways to streamline services without compromising
quality.”

“The commitment made by all of Indiana’s public colleges and universities puts
students and parents first and demonstrates to the rest of the country that
Indiana is a leader in providing a high-quality education at an affordable
price,” Braun said in a statement.

State records showed this is the first time since at least 2010 that more than
two campuses have kept tuition flat.

”It’s finally coming together that we’re within a state now that wants to
balance out what that should be with parents in the drivers seat especially
when you decided to invest in further education, post-secondary,” Braun said in
an exclusive interview with FOX59/CBS4. ”Everybody took the challenge to start
delivering us better value, make it a beacon for parents and students to look
at when they do make that decision they’re gonna get a degree that’s got a job
when you’re done with it.”

Here are the participating institutions:

* Ball State University
* Indiana State University
* Indiana University Bloomington
* Indiana University East
* Indiana University Indianapolis
* Indiana University Kokomo
* Indiana University Northwest
* Indiana University South Bend
* Indiana University Southeast
* Ivy Tech Community College
* Purdue University West Lafayette
* Purdue University Fort Wayne
* Purdue University Northwest
* University of Southern Indiana
* Vincennes University
Per Indiana code, the Commission for Higher Education must make tuition and
mandatory fee recommendations for state public institutions within 30 days of
enactment of the state budget. The commission voted, for the first time ever,
to unanimously support the governor’s recommendation to freeze tuition.

“Keeping tuition flat keeps the door open for students of all backgrounds, all
ZIP codes, and all walks of life,” said Samantha Fleischaker, the commission’s
student member and a student at the University of Southern Indiana. “It sends
the message that education is not just for one demographic—it’s for all people.
It’s not just a number. It’s the difference between opportunity and what feels
impossible.”

The two-year annual tuitions are fixed from a low of $2,577 at Ivy Tech to a
high of $12,144 at Indiana University-Bloomington, which is still below the
national average of $12,201 per year.
