Hi there,
As you know, we recently published a devastating investigation into global egg “farms.” Yep, I’m using scare quotes—because these hellish, disease-ridden facilities make a mockery of the way most people think about farming. I have two huge updates to share:
1. Following our investigation, a farm in Bulgaria has received an order to shut down. After we sent them the footage, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency did an inspection and concluded that there are numerous significant violations of animal welfare and biosecurity requirements.
2. After we reached out with investigation footage, The Cheesecake Factory reported that they’ve completely eliminated the cruel confinement of hens—six years ahead of their initial target. I heard that the CEO was very concerned by the footage and prompted the team to respond.
This is the power of exposing this cruelty. And we’re just getting started. We only have $8,875 left to unlock to reach the full $120,000 in matching funds, and your gift right now will be tripled. Will you make a gift to help us leverage this momentum into more progress for hens?

Thanks for everything you do. I hold an unshakeable belief that we’ll change the world for animals because of people like you.

In partnership with undercover activists in 37 countries, we’re releasing the most comprehensive investigation into caged egg facilities ever documented.
It’s devastating.

Dan here.
I’ve seen it all. I have been fighting for farmed animals all my life, and I think about their suffering every single day. And still, this footage made my stomach turn and brought tears to my eyes.
This might as well be live footage. This is happening right now.
Please note that you can still support this investigation—and help the animals suffering in these facilities—without watching any confronting videos. Simply scroll to the bottom of the page..
Investigators found a live bird, trapped and struggling in manure. They filmed hens clambering over rotting carcasses. They saw animals crawling with fleas. And what breaks my heart the most is looking into these poor hens’ eyes. They hold a depth of despair, fear, and helplessness that no living being should ever have to experience.
Here is what keeps me going, day in and day out. We can help them.
We are dismantling this utterly broken system. We are fighting for these animals, and we are winning. We have already protected hundreds of millions of hens—just like the poor souls shown in this footage—from the unconscionable agony of life in a cage. Because this fight is about more than freedom from extreme cruelty. This fight is about every living being’s right to the most basic dignity.
Believe me—I know how difficult it is to bear witness to this misery.
But let’s face it. Let’s do something about it.
Let’s get to work.
For the animals,
Dan Shannon
CEO
P.S. I want to share a note of gratitude to Nikki Glaser, who narrated this investigation video—along with 100+ celebrities who have signed onto an open letter calling on food corporations to do better.
P.P.S. I also wanted to share a quote from Ezra Klein, which rings even more true in light of this harrowing footage: “How we treat farm animals today will be seen, I believe, as a defining moral failing of our age.”
Humanity can do better than this. And we will do better. Thanks to you.
