John, this is absurd – Donald Trump just sued 15 federal judges – every single one in the state of Maryland. [1]
Why? Because they’re doing their jobs – enforcing constitutional protections that Donald Trump and Stephen Miller don’t agree with.
It’s just the latest in their all-out assault on our rights – and on anything else that stands in the way of enforcing their hateful, draconian idea of what our country should be.
Last month, the chief judge of the state's district court ruled that anyone facing deportation should get a fair hearing first – including a 48-hour pause for anyone who claims they’ve been illegally detained.
That isn’t much to ask… but you and I both know we can’t take any of our constitutional rights for granted right now.
Trump and Miller are tearing families apart with zero legal justification – including the illegal deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, among countless others.
Now, with this week’s Supreme Court ruling allowing Trump to deport people to countries they’ve never even lived in, and new reporting that dozens of U.S. citizens were deported during Trump’s first term, it’s easy to feel like we’re losing the rule of law that’s fundamental to who we are as Americans. [2] [3]
But when people object – whether it’s peaceful protestors in Los Angeles, or elected officials sticking up for their constituents – this administration is throwing everything they’ve got at silencing our voices. [4] [5]
John, Trump’s newest lawsuit is an even more extreme escalation. Trump and Miller aren’t just making threats, they’re trying to usurp an entire branch of government unless they fall in line.
Judges are supposed to stick up for every American’s constitutional rights. But because those rights are an inconvenience for this administration’s white nationalist fever dreams, they’re trying to throw out the entire idea of fairness, due process, and accountability.
This isn't just a battle in Maryland, it's a nationwide fight - protecting our communities and stopping Trump's authoritarianism in its tracks. And how much we're able to fight back depends on you.
We’re ready to fight back, John, but we can’t do it without you. This administration’s rapid-fire assault on our civil liberties and our very democracy has stretched our resources to their very limit. Can you rush a contribution to Common Cause today?

We simply can’t allow Donald Trump to keep treating the judiciary like his political opposition – instead of a co-equal branch of government like it is.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
