The Heart of CASA: A Night of Gratitude

On June 4, we came together to celebrate the heart of our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program—our incredible volunteer advocates. The Heart of CASA: A Night of Gratitude was a chance to say thank you and reflect on the difference they make every day. We were honored to be joined by the Honorable Judge Sean Sherlock and our full Child and Family Services team, whose presence made the evening especially meaningful.

One of the night’s highlights was recognizing 31 CASAs with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, presented by Volunteer Alexandria. Each of these dedicated advocates contributed over 100 hours in a single year to support children navigating the court system—an extraordinary show of compassion and commitment.

This marked the second year our CASA program has had the privilege of presenting these awards, and we’re grateful to Volunteer Alexandria for making it possible.

To our CASAs—thank you! You are a steady, caring presence when it’s needed most, and your impact is felt every day.

Back2School Drive: Help Children Gear Up for Greatness!

A new school year is just around the corner—and for many local families, that means added financial stress. With supply costs rising, your support helps ease the burden and ensures students start the year with the tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

2025 drop off days: Wednesday, July 23 and Thursday, July 24 at 3110 Fairview Park, Suite 100 in Falls Church.

There are many ways to help ensure children in our community are geared up for greatness:

  • Donate online to the Back2School drive. No time to shop? No problem. Your dollars help us cover what’s still missing after the last school supply donation is made.
  • Drop off school supplies. Grab a few extras on your next shopping run—then swing by during our drop-off days to share the goods.
  • Host a supply drive. Rally your coworkers, friends, or neighbors to collect supplies together. The more, the merrier (and the more backpacks we can fill)!
  • Fundraise with your team online. Skip the shopping and still make a big impact—every dollar helps us fill the gaps after supply drop-offs.

Thank you for supporting the Back2School Drive. You're helping each student walk into the classroom feeling confident, prepared, and excited to learn.

Greater Prince William Community Gathers to Celebrate

On Thursday June 5, we gathered at Sweeney Barn in Manassas for the Greater Prince William Community Celebration. To all who were able to support and attend — THANK YOU! It was wonderful to connect with our dedicated supporters, as well as new friends in GPW.

We could not have asked for a better way to wrap up NVFS’ 100th anniversary year — celebrating the powerful stories and lives changed from our neighbors in Greater Prince William and beyond.

The GPW Mission Experience was a wonderful opportunity to meet program staff and learn more about community support helps transform lives every day.

As always, thank you for your dedicated support of our community, as we work together to strengthen families and build brighter futures.

Volunteer Spotlight: Teams Power a Shelter and Thrift Shop Makeover

Deloitte once again showed up in a big way for NVFS during their annual Impact Day. At the NVFS SERVE Family Shelter, their team transformed the staff workspace by removing outdated storage units, building new desks and shelving, and organizing supplies to improve service for shelter guests. They also built and stocked shelves at the NVFS Clock Tower Thrift Store in Falls Church—enhancing both efficiency and layout.

We’re also incredibly grateful to Peterson Companies and GSA National, who joined the effort over the past month. From painting and building to sorting and reorganizing donations, their hands-on help powered a major attic refresh at the thrift shop.

Thank you to all our partners for your time, tools, and teamwork!
