Long before this job, and even before he was elected to represent Brooklyn on the City Council, Jumaane was a relentless advocate for justice. He was the kind of person you wanted to fight alongside -- not against. Jumaane saw the inequities in our society and resolved to do something about them. He recognized the widening gulf between the haves and the have nots in our city, and he filled that void with action.
