A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
This weekend, we mark Armed Forces Day – a time to recognise and thank the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community, from serving troops and reservists to service families, veterans and cadets. Nottingham is proud of its long-standing military connections, and I want to extend our gratitude to all those who serve and have served.
In other exciting news, Nottingham will host the 2028 European Archery Championships! A huge moment for our city and a great boost for sport, tourism and local pride.

The Royal Lancers Freedom of Nottingham March
The Royal Lancers have recently returned from several operations, including Operation ELGIN in Kosovo, Operation TOSCA in Cyprus and Operation CABRIT in Poland. Taking place in the heartland of their recruiting area, the parade follows time-old tradition whereby regiments of the British Army are granted ‘freedom of the city’ to mark their return from operations.
To mark the occasion, the Regiment will conduct a formal parade in No. 2 Dress with lances through the centre of Nottingham on 28 June.
The march through the town begins at 11:40am in Nottingham on Saturday 28 June between St Mary’s Church, NG1 1HN and the Council House, NG1 2DT.
Members of the public are welcome to watch the parade at any point along the route.
Please note: to facilitate the parade there will be a number of road closures between 11am-12.30pm in the city centre and diversions will be in place. NET Tram, Nottingham City Transport and trentbarton will have some disrupted services during this time.
