John,
Today is the anniversary of three momentous Supreme Court cases that codified LGBTQ+ rights: Lawrence v. Texas, Windsor v. United States and Obergefell v. Hodges. This is a day to celebrate and to remember the brave people who tirelessly fought to ensure bigoted sodomy laws were overturned and marriage equality became the law of the land.
But there is still so much work to do. Despite the initial rulings, these rights are not secure. Justice Clarence Thomas called for Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell to be reconsidered. The extremists on the Court are stripping away trans rights and bodily autonomy, while the bigots in the White House are aiming to remove LGBTQ+ voices and stories from government. Over the last four years, we've seen an all-out assault on LGBTQ+ rights, with hundreds of bills targeting everything from trans kids and gender-affirming care to drag shows and marriage equality itself.
Today, of all days, we must honor those who came before and ensure their legacy is not destroyed. To preserve the steps forward we have made, and to secure the future for so many more. If you can make a donation to elect LGBTQ+ candidates who will ensure that Lawrence, Windsor and Obergefell are preserved, please do so here.
Thank you,
Orie Givens
