Dear Friend,
Jess (pseudonym), a Twitch streamer, was heartbroken to discover that other male streamers had been viewing pornography of her on Pornhub. But more than heartbroken, Jess was utterly baffled: she had never filmed any kind of pornographic or sexually explicit videos.
It didn’t matter. Nefarious actors had used AI to generate pornography of her based on the images and videos of her that appeared online due to her status as a Twitch streamer. The images and videos of her were not sexual in nature, but A.I. allowed perpetrators to use any image of her face to generate forged pornography.
Jess went to a lawyer attempting to sue the creator, but it was no use. “Every single lawyer I’ve talked to essentially have come to the conclusion that we don’t have a case; there’s no way to sue the guy.”
Jess’s story highlights two important lessons: Anyone can fall victim to image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) and there are not enough avenues for survivors to pursue justice.
This is why your support in the fight against IBSA is essential.
We have achieved historic progress in combatting IBSA, thanks to supporters like you: the TAKE IT DOWN Act was signed into law last month, making it a federal crime to non-consensually create or distribute sexually explicit content. We released the “Not a Fantasy” Report earlier this year, highlighting the ways the porn industry exploits survivors of IBSA.
But this is just the beginning.
We are still pushing legislators to pass the DEFIANCE Act and the NO FAKES Act, which tackle the issue of IBSA in ways that are complementary to the TAKE IT DOWN Act. We are pressing forward on lawsuits that hold pornography companies accountable for profiting from IBSA.
Will you fund the fight against image-based sexual abuse & all sexual exploitation?
