Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats.

Almost a year since taking power, this Labour Government is failing to take
the bold action needed to revive our economy and fix public services.
We welcome the boost in health spending announced at the Spending Review this
month, but the money risks going to waste without addressing the social care
crisis. Instead of squeezing budgets, we need a proper plan for growthnow.
Fortunately, the Liberal Democrats are here to help. The Government should
adopt our plans to: 🔽
🔶 Negotiate a new, bespoke UK-EU customs union, the growth from which will
boost the public finances by over £25 billion a year.
🔶 Back small businesses by overhauling business rates and scrapping the NICs
hike.
🔶 Fix the health and care sectors so more people can return to work and play
a role in strengthening our economy.
🔶 Make big banks, social media companies, and gambling giants pay their fair
share instead of small and family businesses.

It’s crucial that the Chancellor scraps the damaging jobs tax, which is
pushing up prices and causing mortgage pain for countless households.

Boosting our defences
Last week, Ed Davey and Helen Maguire, our Defence Spokesperson, visited
Estonia to meet British troops stationed in the country, as well as Prime
Minister Kristen Michal and Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur.
The region is vital to the defence of NATO’s eastern border in the face of
Putin’s relentless imperialism. With an unreliable Trump in the White House
too, we’re up against a once-in-a-generation threat to our shared security.
We’ve announced bold new measures to urgently attract new recruits to the
Armed Forces and build our resilience.

Opposing Labour’s welfare cuts
The Government’s proposed welfare reforms, including cuts to Personal
Independence Payment (PIP), are deeply concerning for those with disabilities
and unpaid carers.
Cutting PIP will do nothing to support people into work, when so many
claimants rely on this help to stay employed.
Thousands of family carers, selflessly looking after loved ones and taking
pressure off our NHS, will also lose out on vital support, adding insult to
injury after the Carers Allowance repayments scandal.
If the Government was serious about cutting welfare spending it would get
serious about fixing health and social care, to tackle chronic ill-health at
its root.
The Government must change course on these flawed proposals - please share our
message with your friends and family:

<[link removed]>Happy Pride Month!
June is Pride Month - a time to come together, to celebrate and stand in
solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities in the UK and across the world.
We’ve made a lot of progress, but the journey to LGBTQ+ equality is still a
long one.
The Liberal Democrats will keep fighting until we can finally build a society
where everyone is free to be who they are.

Holding water companies to account
The Lib Dems are pushing back against sewage-dumping water companies which
build up debt, reward millions to their bosses and shareholders, and let
customers pay the price.
Last week, Lisa Smart MP tabled an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill

for missing pollution commitment levels.
