Hi there,

At Swing Left, we’ve been thinking a lot about the NY mayoral race today—even though we weren’t involved (we neither engage in local races nor in Democratic primaries). Why? Because last night’s primary revealed some key learnings for how we win Democratic majorities in the midterms and beyond.

Just a few short months ago, New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani was polling at 1% in his mayoral primary. But instead of backing down, Zohran and his team went all-in on having as many conversations with as many voters as possible—AKA grassroots organizing.

📋 Together with 50,000 grassroots volunteers, his campaign knocked 1.5 million doors across New York City, securing a victory ultimately propelled by effective voter outreach rooted in two-way conversations with voters.

That’s the kind of energy we need to carry into the 2026 midterms if we want to restore the balance of power in Congress and put a check on Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda.

With just 3 seats needed to flip the House, we need to start listening and talking to voters now to make sure we have the best possible chance at victory. That’s why Swing Left groups are already organizing across the country to mobilize volunteers in the districts where it will matter most.

✅ [Will you sign up to join a local Swing Left organizing group today?]([link removed]) It’s one of the most powerful ways to get involved and make change happen, no matter where you happen to live.

Worried there isn’t an existing group in your area? Don’t worry, we’ll help you start one!

Last night’s primary showed us one important thing: Grassroots, people-powered organizing works—when it’s done right. To win key elections, Democrats must invest in organizing early, authentically, and deeply.

Now it’s our turn to bring that momentum to the midterm races that will shape the future of our country. And none of it is possible without volunteers like you.

Let’s get to work,

The Swing Left Team

P.S. — The work ahead will take all of us. If you’re able, [will you make a donation to Swing Left today]([link removed]) and help power grassroots action across the country?
