Hi John. It’s Jackie.
Three years ago today—June 25, 2022—we achieved something monumental.
President Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the first federal gun safety legislation passed in 30 years. This victory was possible because we marched, organized, and demanded action.
Together, we:
- Secured enhanced background checks for young adults (18-21).
- Closed loopholes that allowed unlicensed gun sales.
- Invested $250 million in community violence intervention programs.
- Delivered $1.3 billion to improve school safety.
- Allocated over $1 billion for mental health support and suicide prevention.
Our collective power produced tangible results:
- A 52% increase in prosecuting unlicensed firearm dealers.
- 776 illegal firearm sales blocked for those under 21.
- Funding for 80 community violence intervention programs nationwide.
- 6,000 schools with expanded crisis intervention support.
- Mental health training provided to over 170,000 individuals.
But here's the hard reality: much of this progress has already been reversed by the Trump administration. Trump and his allies are actively dismantling critical parts of the BSCA, undermining the lifesaving victories we've worked tirelessly to achieve.
We must not let them erase our progress. Gun violence remains an urgent public health crisis, disproportionately impacting communities of color and devastating young lives.
We must keep fighting, demanding, and organizing to restore and expand comprehensive gun safety measures.
Will you help us keep this fight alive? Please pitch in whatever you can today to defend and rebuild our crucial progress.
