This grassroots team has been by my side through three tough elections, and there is no one else I’d rather have by my side in this next hard fight.
We invested all our funds in talking to voters and winning last November. Please, let me explain:
Four times a year, campaigns are legally required to report how much their campaign has raised. These public fundraising reports are pored over by political insiders, the press, and potential opponents looking to size up our campaign and see if we have any weaknesses they can exploit.
I have been proud to be a vocal opponent of the Trump administration and the disastrous impacts on our military, on our seniors, and on our communities. When it comes to protecting our rights, securing our benefits for seniors, and defending the constitution, I am always up for the fight. That’s what the people of the Hudson Valley sent me to Washington to do.
But that work has also put a target on this campaign. NY-18 remains one of the most competitive congressional districts in the country, and National Republicans are keying in on it as one of their top investment opportunities.
This report is extra important, because we usually see a decline in grassroots fundraising over the summer. Coming up short will mean filing a report that encourages Republicans to invest here – they will see lack of resources as an opportunity to flip a seat.
We need to make it clear that this grassroots team represents a formidable opponent, and is not to be messed with. Grassroots donations from emails like this make up an important portion of our fundraising.
