Trump Mobile is the latest breach of ethics from The Trump Organization—add your name to tell major carriers to reject this cash grab.
Dear MoveOn member,
The Trump Organization, Donald Trump's massive conglomerate, announced it's launching "Trump Mobile" with a gold-colored, MAGA-branded smartphone and mobile plan that will operate using AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon's cellular networks.1 This latest cash grab from the Trump family does not just pose clear conflicts of interest but also serious data security concerns, as well.2
Trump has spent years slapping his name on merch—and despite serious ethics concerns about the president licensing his name, there have yet to be any real investigations of potential conflicts of interest.3
Meanwhile, there are serious potential implications when it comes to surveillance and data privacy. The current policy would allow The Trump Organization to collect data from web searches, browsing, geolocation, and even text and email content.4
Trump is blatantly using the presidency to enrich himself—it's past time for major corporations like these cellular networks to refuse to do business with him. Tell AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to reject Trump Mobile.
To make matters worse, The Trump Organization's release says the smartphone will cost only $499 and be made in the USA, despite the fact that there is essentially no manufacturing system in the United States that could fully produce a smartphone for that cost.5 Eric Trump has since walked back this claim in interviews—but The Trump Organization has yet to clarify for buyers that the phones are in fact not USA made.6
Trump Mobile will reportedly offer packages like roadside assistance and telemedicine services, positioning him as an all-encompassing brand that infiltrates health care, emergencies, and everyday communications, all while capitalizing off of political loyalty.7
Major companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have a responsibility to consumers to stop The Trump Organization from committing potential ethics violations on their watch. Demand they reject Trump Mobile NOW!
Trump Mobile is just the latest example of the Trump family's using the office of the president of the United States to sell products, from perfume to sneakers. Just this month, Trump disclosed that he made nearly $8 million in licensing deals—all while he makes devastating cuts to social services that working families depend on.8
But it's hard to know the full extent of these deals. Experts at leading organizations like Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics warn that without real insights into who is funding these many businesses, it's impossible to know what entities might be trading political favors for investments.9
Americans deserve real transparency—and to know exactly who might be influencing the people leading our country. Without real answers, we need AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to advocate for the ethics standards we deserve.
Thanks for all you do.
