We may have less time than we thought to save Medicaid from enormous cuts. The President has told the Senate and the House he wants the budget reconciliation bill that cuts Medicaid to be passed by July 4th. The Senate released bill text last week. The Senate is making changes to the bill now, and is close to releasing a final bill. They may vote as soon as Sunday. If the bill passes the Senate, the House could vote next week! We need to act now!
It’s more urgent than ever that we all take action, and we can’t stop until they take Medicaid cuts off the table. Your Senators and Representative need to be hearing from you nonstop about how important Medicaid is for our community. Their offices should be getting so many calls that they can’t spend time on anything but answering the phone. Your calls have already made some members of Congress nervous. They have started talking about how cuts to Medicaid will hurt people! If they’re going to vote against the cuts, we need to be louder than ever before. Check out the email below to learn more about what’s going on in Congress, and how you can act now to save Medicaid!

Subject: 6/18 UPDATE: Protecting Medicaid in the Federal Budget
The Senate has released their plan for cuts to Medicaid. They’re even worse than what the House passed in the budget reconciliation bill which would already be the biggest cuts to Medicaid in history. The Congressional Budget Office says that the House’s cuts to health care would cause 16 million people to become uninsured. The Senate bill would likely mean even more people would become uninsured. The Senate bill also includes rules that would stop Medicaid from paying for gender affirming care.
We need to continue to tell the Senate, the House, and Governors that these Medicaid cuts and restrictions need to be taken out of the budget reconciliation bill. To learn more about Medicaid, the budget process, and all the most recent updates, read our full plain language guide about Medicaid in the budget.
Republicans Senators who are not sure about Medicaid cuts need to hear from their constituents. We need everyone to tell their Senators that we do not want cuts to Medicaid. The Senate may try to vote as soon as the end of next week! We need to tell them to take Medicaid cuts out of the budget reconciliation bill. We need to tell the Senate: No cuts to Medicaid.
After the budget reconciliation bill passes the Senate, the House needs to vote on the bill again. Some Representatives who voted for the budget reconciliation bill do not like that the bill would make cuts to Medicaid. We need to tell Representatives:
- We are upset Representatives passed a budget reconciliation bill with cuts to Medicaid.
- We do not want Representatives to vote “yes” on a bill that has cuts to Medicaid. If the bill has Medicaid cuts, they should vote “no” for the budget reconciliation bill.
We need to call Representatives and Senators and tell them to vote NO on a budget reconciliation bill that has cuts to Medicaid. You can find out who your Representatives and Senators are and how to call them here. If you need some help knowing what to expect during your call, check out this resource. If you can’t make phone calls due to a disability, you can use our proxy caller system!
You can find phone call scripts, talking points, and more information about contacting your Representatives and Senators here.
Thank you for taking action to protect health care for disabled people, older adults, low-income folks, and children across the country!
