250th Birthday of the U.S. Army
June 14th marked 250 years since the United States Army was founded. Established by the Second Continental Congress, this marked the first American national military force - a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The Army transitioned from horse-mounted calvary of a few thousand troops to a highly advanced, modernized force of over 940,000 active, reserve, and National Guard soldiers today.
I was inspired by my father, First Lieutenant Hugh Wilson, who served with the Flying Tigers in the Army Air Corps, defending India and liberating China. I am also grateful to be a veteran of 31 years in the Army, with four sons who have served overseas.
Aptly summarized by the Army itself, “Older than the nation it defends,” the U.S. Army has and continues to keep us safe and protect our democratic way of life.
