The safety of Americans at home and abroad will always be my top priority.

We must remain vigilant against Iran and all enemy nations with nuclear ambitions. But President Trump offered no evidence that U.S. lives were in imminent danger before unilaterally authorizing strikes in Iran last week, risking retaliation and American lives.

He still hasn’t.

Trump continues to flout the law and ignore the Constitution, which grants Congress the exclusive authority to declare war. He defies court orders. Cancels Congressional appropriations. Scorns conflict of interest rules.

He is a threat to our democracy.

I am signing on to the Iran War Powers Resolution to ensure we do not send troops into harms way without Congressional authority.  This resolution makes clear that the Trump Administration – and all future Administrations – must abide by our sacred system of checks and balances. I hope I can count on your support.
