Folks, when I first arrived in Washington to serve Colorado in the US Senate, I’ll be honest: it was a lot to take in. See, I had served in public office before, but I was still *far* from being a typical politician. And I knew all too well about Washington’s reputation of partisanship and gridlock.
My path to serving in the US Senate looked a little different from the typical politician you’ll find in Washington. I’m a laid-off geologist who became a local brewer, and I first ran for Mayor of Denver because the concerns of everyday Coloradans simply weren’t being addressed. And since then, no matter what office I’ve held, I’ve worked to put Colorado families and communities first. Despite the dysfunction we’ve seen from Washington lately, I’m proud to say that grit, integrity, and hard work has paid off in the time I’ve served Colorado in the Senate. I got my hands dirty working hard in the Senate to make real change for Coloradans. We invested billions of dollars to confront the climate crisis, lowered prescription drug costs, made investments to rebuild our infrastructure, and brought thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs back to America. And in this unprecedented and critical moment, I’m fighting tooth and nail to oppose Trump’s cruel cuts to Medicaid, protect Colorado’s public lands, and preserve all of the progress we’ve made over the past few years. Americans don't want to see more chaos and dysfunction in Washington — they’re counting on us to deliver real relief and progress on the issues that matter most, and that’s what we’ll always do.
