 The first half of my life felt like two steps forward, three steps back. I’m Josh Williams – my father died when I was 5, I was raised by a single mom, and I was homeless at 18 and forced to sleep on park benches. At 21, I fell thirty feet working at the railroad and shattered my spine into a million pieces. I was bedridden and barely able to move. At my heaviest, I weighed over 450 pounds. I remember asking God, “Why me?” I could have accepted my fate, cursed God, and lived off a government check all the way to an early grave. Instead, I said, “Why not me?” I spent the next 6 grueling years on the long road to recovery. I lost over 250 pounds, endured 42 procedures on my spine, 5 major back surgeries, started college at 30, finished law school in Toledo, and clawed my way up from rock bottom. Since then, and by the grace of God, my life is on the up and up. I was elected as the first Black Republican in the Ohio State House in 50 years and the first Black Majority Whip ever. I also helped rally voters for President Trump, Ohio’s own JD Vance, and now Vivek Ramaswamy for Governor.  Now I’m taking on the biggest challenge of my life and running for Congress in the most competitive district in the country. Before I go any further, can I respectfully ask you to become a Founding Donor to my new campaign?
The ninth district of Ohio has gained national attention for years. The incumbent Democrat, Marcy Kaptur, is the longest-serving Congresswoman in the entire country. Seriously. She’s been in office since before I was born.
She’s the epitome of a career politician from The Swamp.
She barely won in 2024, and with a little help from good folks like you pitching in, we will defeat her, flip this seat for the GOP, and help deliver a conservative House Majority for the rest of President Trump’s term.
But as you can imagine, it pays to spend four decades in The Swamp. Kaptur has a vast network of donors from New York and California propping up her campaign and spreading propaganda to paper over her record. I don’t have that. In fact, sending emails like this is totally new for me.
So if this message flops and not enough people contribute, her advantage only grows.
I don’t have mega-donors lining up to cut huge checks – all I have is you. That’s why I’d be honored if you’d be willing to join the team and become a Founding Donor.  I know the odds are stacked against me, and the so-called “experts” out in DC are counting me out. But being the underdog is not new to me. I’ve overcome much worse. Nothing they say about me compares to what I’ve overcome, being a homeless, high school dropout with a shattered back. I’ve always come out a better man – and now I have a spine of steel (I mean that figuratively AND literally). I’d be honored if you’d join me in this campaign. I promise I won’t let you down.
