ZOHRAN WINS NYC MAYORAL PRIMARY. JOIN DSA.
|
Zohran winning the Democratic primary in New York City is a huge victory for all working people and a huge victory for democratic socialism — Zohran ran as an open socialist and completely devastated the political establishment. He's chart out a new political map, one that truly reflects the multiracial working class movement we know is out there. This is proof positive that the rise of right wing extremism is not a done deal, that building a socialist political pole can reshape US politics forever, that when we fight, we win!
This victory is a beacon of hope for Angelenos who have been weathering the political repression of the Trump administration over the last three weeks -- a guiding light in a stormy sea.
Join DSA to be a part of this movement for the long haul!

4 ACTIONS TO TAKE THIS WEEK
|
Our city is under attack. Federal agents are conducting a series of raids all throughout Los Angeles, ripping families apart, and subjecting our community to horrific conditions in the Metro Detention Center. ICE is targeting members of our community– street vendors, day laborers, carwasheros and factory workers. This fascist onslaught against immigrants is an attack on the working class. It is of utmost importance that we, members of DSA, show up and come out for our immigrant neighbors.

Friday, June 27 @ 7:00 pm
|
DSA-LA is teaming up with the National Day Laborers Organizing Network (NDLON) to adopt day laborer and street vendor locations to be on the lookout for ICE attacks. We need volunteers to be at these locations to call in to the Rapid Response Network and film when ICE arrives.
Each DSA Branch (Central, SFV, Eastside+SGV, Westside, and South Central) are adopting different locations and doing morning shifts (6-10 am) each day for the next few weeks. Come volunteer to help us stop ICE and protect our communities.
This training is to go over what you need to do in order to volunteer. We'll cover the rapid response network, logistics, roles, safety, and best practices.

Don't Sign! Defend the Wage!
|
Saturday, June 28 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
|
Sunday, June 29 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
|
This month, LA City Council finally passed the Living Wage Ordinance, which mandates that all tourism workers make at least $30 an hour wage. This wage increase is especially critical with the Olympics coming in a few years! But instead of paying their workers a living wage, hotel corporations are spending millions to mislead LA residents and repeal the Living Wage Ordinance with a petition. The greedy billionaires are circulating a petition to take away the $30 an hour wage for tourism workers that we just won at City Council. Don’t Sign! Defend the Wage!
In response, DSA-LA will be joining Unite HERE Local 11, SEIU-USWW, and LAANE to get out in the streets and block the Hotel Industry’s paid canvassers. We will be crowd canvassing at Farmer’s Markets, Metro Stops, and busy intersections to get in front of the paid canvassers and stop them from collecting signatures for their misleading petitions.
If you see someone collecting signatures, SAY SOMETHING! If you see signature gatherers in your community, call the Defend the Wage hotline: (909) 326-0042.

Please RSVP for meeting zoom information.

DSA-LA Supports Grocery Workers Practice Picket
|
Friday, June 27 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
|
UFCW 770 members are STRIKE READY! Union grocery store workers at major chains like Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, Stater Bros, Super A Foods, and Gelsons have been in contract negotiations with their employers for months, pushing for real solutions to short staffing, stressful working conditions, affordable healthcare and a living wage.
Despite continuing to make record profits, Grocery mega-corporations like Kroger & Albertsons have offered a meager $2.75 wage increase for only senior staff over the next three years – not even close to what the workers deserve in order to make ends meet in Southern California. Join DSA-LA members at this practice picket line to show support to our local grocery workers!

Eastside + SGV: Fighting Fascism
|
Friday, June 27 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
|
The Eastside + SGV Branch is hosting an open meeting for all members in good standing to learn more about the different aspects of our fighting fascism campaign. At our branch meeting earlier this month, we provided a training on immigration Know Your Rights and the rapid response network that we’re building out in coalition with other immigration justice organizations in Los Angeles.
At this meeting, we’ll be discussing our new ICE watch campaign, in partnership with NDLON at local Home Depots. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved, build community, and fight back against fascism.
