Dear John,
The Senate is on the verge of passing a dangerous reconciliation spending bill by the end of this weekend. The bill will devastate immigrant communities, pour billions into supercharging detention and deportations, and slash funding from healthcare, education, and food assistance programs for millions of Americans.
The stakes are too high to remain silent. Stand with the American Immigration Council and tell your senator to oppose the bill [[link removed]] .
Take Action [[link removed]]
This bill is a direct attack on due process, family unity, and legal immigration. If passed in its current form, it would:
* Turn legal immigration into a pay-to-play system by imposing astronomical and mandatory fees on many immigration benefits, including a $1,000 fee just to apply for asylum and imposing thousands of dollars in fees for sponsors of unaccompanied children.
* Price non-citizens out of the workforce by mandating work permit fees for asylum applicants, people with parole, and Temporary Protected Status holders, impacting thousands of noncitizen workers that fill critical labor shortages.
* Increase ICE’s detention budget by 265% , making it nearly 50% larger than the entire federal prison system.
* Provide ICE $30 billion—3 times its current budget—to expand arrests in our communities and small businesses by hiring new ICE agents, providing retention and performance bonuses, and enlisting local law enforcement agencies to enforce civil immigration law across the country.
Tell your senator to vote NO on the reconciliation spending bill [[link removed]] . We need policies that protect families, uphold due process, and support—not target—our communities.
Sincerely,
Adriel Orozco
