John, it’s Maine Governor Janet Mills.

Donald Trump campaigned on bringing down the price of eggs, bread, heat, housing, and cars. But instead, just five months into his presidency, he’s threatening to use the federal budget to punish his enemies, bypassing the authority of our nation’s governors in new and dangerous ways, and making political pawns of working class families struggling to get by.

We know the work to push back against Trump and his agenda begins right here in the states. Democratic governors like myself are suing the Trump administration over tariffs, unlawful funding cuts to schoolchildren and working families, the termination of critical health care research, and more.

But we need to know where supporters like you stand. So please, answer one question for me, John:

What should Democratic governors prioritize right now?

John, my state and states across the country are being threatened by a wannabe strongman in the White House who is playing games with federal funding, working with his Republican Congress to rip away health care from millions, and even threatening to arrest a sitting Democratic governor.

But right here in Maine, we’re taking action. We’re one of many Democratic-led states that have sued the Trump administration and won.

• We’ve sued to keep school children fed in Maine after Donald Trump’s USDA tried to cut off funding for meals.
• We’ve sued to keep communities safe from gun violence after the Trump administration planned on redistributing thousands of devices that convert guns into machine guns.
• We’ve sued to keep DOGE out of the sensitive information of Mainers, including bank account information and Social Security numbers.
• We’ve sued Donald Trump over his dismantling of the Department of Education.

And so long as Donald Trump keeps trying to enact his dangerous agenda, we will keep fighting back and we will win.

We won’t be bullied, John. But Trump and his cronies aren’t planning on backing down from their assault on our rights and our values.
