Minimum wage. The 40 hour work week. Overtime pay. Safe working standards. While groundbreaking 90 years ago, these benefits are no longer enough for us to thrive as a society.
Today marks the anniversary of the Fair Labor Standards Act, team.
Minimum wage. The 40 hour work week. Overtime pay. Safe working standards. While groundbreaking 90 years ago, these benefits are no longer enough for us to thrive as a society.
And as your Supervisor, I will always advocate for the fair working conditions and protections San Diego’s working families deserve.
A report released earlier this year showed that only 56% of full-time workers in the U.S. are making a living wage and less than 30% have access to paid parental leave or retirement benefits. Meanwhile, 44% aren’t earning enough to cover the basic needs for their families.
In a country as wealthy as ours — and especially in a state like California where we are surrounded by wealth — no person should be working full time and still struggle to put a roof over their head, get the healthcare they need, plan for their families, and retire with dignity.
As someone who has dedicated my career to advocating for equity and fairness, I’m determined to help ensure the people I represent don’t just get by, but thrive. Both in the short and the long term.
That’s why I’m sharing these resources with you. If you or a loved one needs help stretching those dollars right now, no questions asked, contact an expert TODAY:https://www.sdflc.org/resources/
