Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani!

This is a huge win for our movement and for anyone who believes in a future where all of us can thrive. A future where everyone has the housing, healthcare, education, and affordable life they deserve.

As a progressive, a Muslim, and an immigrant, I share a lot with Zohran. I faced the same challenges he faced when running for office — hatred, prejudice, threats and more. We’ve both been discounted by the establishment, targeted by billionaire-funded attack ads, and had our ideas dismissed because we dared to dream big and challenge the status quo.

But Zohran said it best in his remarks last night: “Dreaming demands solidarity—but above all dreaming demands work.”

Zohran’s performance last night is proof that anyone can stand up for progressive values and win if they have the support of a true grassroots movement and a positive message that regular people can get behind.

That’s how we’ve won reelection not once, not twice, but three times here in Minneapolis.

Now we must take the next step and continue to push this momentum forward.
