John,
Over the past month, we’ve been sharing updates about our fundraising needs as we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30th. Thanks to you, today we hit our $2.3 million goal for our donative revenue! That means we’ll close our year on June 30 with our work fully funded. We’re so grateful.

You’ve helped carry us through a year of real economic challenge. And while we exceeded our immediate goal, the funds that come in over the next few days are still incredibly important. I wanted to write to you — especially those who appreciate a transparent understanding of Love146’s finances — and explain why. Now, if you’re the kind of person who hears “fiscal year” and thinks, “Tell me everything,” then this next part’s for you. Or, if you’re just here to celebrate and move on, thank you! We’re so glad you’re with us.

Still reading? Great. Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes:

The past few years have been marked by economic challenges that have significantly impacted our funding. Additionally, rising inflation drove up operational costs, further straining our budget. This is not a situation unique to Love146, as this is being broadly experienced throughout our nonprofit sector. In the past two years, we made a strategic decision to draw some from our cash reserves — something previously unprecedented in Love146’s two decades of history.

Our priority is always our commitment to children, which guided this choice. By using these reserves, we've been able to maintain our services, support our team, and ensure stability.
The budget goal we just hit this week was a modified goal. It reflects a responsive posture, tightening spending and making hard decisions that allowed us to end this year in the black. Still, this modified budget unfortunately didn’t allow us to rebuild operating reserves we had originally planned to restore. Those reserves are a safety net that matters tremendously. So gifts you make before June 30th will help us begin to replenish what’s been lost from our reserves, strengthening our footing and ensuring we can say “yes” when a child calls us for help.

And even amid challenges, there are signs of growth: this year we received multi-year grants dedicated to specific program efforts. But it doesn’t change the fact that day-to-day needs remain tight, and that building back reserves is essential.

Because the reality is:

• Children are still waiting for help.

• Families are facing instability and greater risk.

• And we’re committed to being here consistently for the long haul.

This year, you helped cover the costs of all the services Love146 had committed to providing for youth. That’s something to be proud of. Thank you for standing with us and building a world where children are safe from exploitation.
