Former First Lady Michelle Obama is using her platform to encourage young people demanding justice to pair their critical activism on the streets with organizing within their communities and voting.
In an address to 2020 graduates, she said, “Everybody’s got to vote when the time comes, but the activism that leads up to that day comes in many forms.”
Now, she has launched her new initiative with a coalition of mayors called “Civic Cities” to increase voter registration and participation. Former First Lady Michelle Obama is wildly popular -- in a global survey, she earned the title of “most admired woman.” And on her recent book tour, she packed stadiums and arenas, proving that she can turn out people en masse.
