How I’m protecting abortion access in Illinois

Team,

This week marks three years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, stripping away a vital constitutional right that protected millions for decades.

As an oasis for abortion care, Illinois has had to bear the burden of fighting more legal battles against anti-choice challengers while also dealing with an influx of patients from neighboring states.

Our state’s medical providers have stepped up to serve the increase of patients forced to travel to Illinois for necessary care. At the same time, our state Legislature has stepped up, with legal guidance and advocacy from my office, to enact comprehensive laws expanding and protecting reproductive health care access and coverage.

Although reproductive rights have been rolled back nationally, Illinois has stood strong over these past three years.

As Attorney General, I’ve taken action to protect access to mifepristone, published a “Know Your Reproductive Rights” guide to help patients protect their personal information, and joined attorneys general nationwide in legal efforts to defend reproductive freedom.

Abortion is health care, and access to it is a fundamental right. Unfortunately, many Americans are living in states where that right has been taken away. But I want you to know that I’m working every day to ensure Illinois continues to stand strong and am fighting to expand and protect reproductive rights nationally.
