We Must Elect Common-Sense Republican Candidates

Greetings,

This past week, we had a very important primary on both sides of the aisle. While Republicans were selecting local or House of Delegates candidates, Democrats were choosing their nominees for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. The votes are in, and the tickets are set. On one side, we have common sense, on the other, nonsense.

I want to highlight just how radical the top of the Democratic ticket is and why it’s so important that we elect common-sense Republicans this November.

At the top of the Democratic ticket is former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger. As she kicked off her bus tour this week, she began traveling across the Commonwealth, trying to present herself as a moderate. She claims she can continue the success of our current Governor, yet she refuses to support the very policies that made Governor Youngkin so successful.

So, what makes her radical? In her first term in Congress, she voted with Nancy Pelosi 92% of the time. In her second term, that number rose to 100%. These votes include her opposition to the Laken Riley Act, a bill that would have required the swift deportation of illegal immigrants who commit violent felonies against American citizens. She also voted to allow biological men in women’s sports and locker rooms. Additionally, while she claims she won’t repeal Virginia’s Right to Work law, she has stated that it “needs to be looked at” and refused to sign the pledge to keep it in place. These are not the actions of a moderate; they’re the actions of a radical.

Next is their nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Senator Ghazala Hashmi. She is one of the most radical members of the Virginia Senate.

She has publicly called for the repeal of Right to Work, something that used to have bipartisan commonsense support. Her legislative record includes some of the most extreme proposals I’ve seen while serving in the Senate. She sponsored the so-called “Right to Reproductive Freedom” amendment. Don’t be fooled by the branding. This radical amendment would allow abortion up to the moment of birth and permit underage children to receive abortions without parental consent. She also sponsored the “Death with Dignity” act, which would legalize physician-assisted suicide in Virginia. Under her proposal, doctors would be allowed to end the lives of patients who request it. Again, this is not the work of a moderate but a radical.

Finally, there’s Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Attorney General. Not only is he underqualified, he’s also deeply out of touch with what Virginians want and need. He supports ending the cash bail system, backs soft-on-crime policies that have devastated cities, and wants to eliminate school resource officers from our schools.

His legal résumé is minimal, he worked for just one year in D.C., in one of the most liberal Attorney General’s offices in the nation. Jay Jones has made his intentions clear: he wants to use the Attorney General’s office not to protect Virginians from violent criminals, but to engage in political lawfare against people and policies he disagrees with, especially President Trump.

As you can see, these candidates are not moderates. They stand for nonsense, not common sense. Their agenda would damage our economy, raise your taxes, and turn Virginia into the next Maryland or California.

Over the past four years, under Governor Youngkin’s leadership, Virginia has made real progress. Yes, he’s worked across the aisle to accomplish good things. But make no mistake, this new slate of Democrat candidates is not made up of those same moderates. Their agenda mirrors the failed policies of the Biden administration and liberal strongholds like California.

That’s why we must elect our commonsense Republican candidates, Winsome Sears, John Reid, and Jason Miyares, to stop their nonsense and keep Virginia moving in the right direction.
