Diane Mitsch Bush

John,

Today is Juneteenth, the anniversary of the Union marching to Texas to announce the enslaved in Galveston were free, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

We need to celebrate Juneteenth with more than words.

It is time to address inequality with action: we must have real economic justice, social justice, and environmental justice now. As the Kerner report 50 years ago said: “Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white—separate and unequal."

That report recommended ending discrimination at work, in housing, and in criminal justice.

We need to act on these recommendations now, more than ever. COVID-19 has shown that people of color are at greater risk. That is a result of deep structural inequalities— lack of healthcare access in communities of color, food deserts, poorly funded public education systems, and roll backs of civil rights, human rights and voting rights.

We must remedy these NOW at the federal level. I have worked for equality and justice all my adult life. Scott Tipton has not.

In Congress, I promise to fight to address our nation's systems of inequality and oppression.

And to win, I need you to fight with me.

Together,

Diane
