There is no making sense of the loss of a child. No tribute or gesture can ever come close. For Lindsay Adeyiga and her family, creating a memorial fund in their daughter Lola’s name became a way to keep her joy and kindness alive after her unexpected passing. Not by moving on, but by holding on to what made Lola smile.
“We really wanted people to be able to donate in Lola’s honor and memory, not just right away when she passed away, but for a very long time,” Lindsay says in this new video. “So that we could keep her memory alive, allow people to talk about her, think about her, see her photo, and also make an impact in the community on things that she really loved and was excited about as a little kid.”
Through the fund, they’ve supported projects like buddy benches at Lola’s school and scholarships for youth soccer. These are small reflections of the things that made her smile.
Lindsay is the first to say that this is simply what felt right for her family. “I don’t want anyone to compare or feel pressure to do something good when a tragedy occurs,” she says. “The most important thing is to take care of yourself and your family, and to try to just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Things will eventually come to you that bring you comfort.”
