John,When the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case three years ago, it felt like a gut punch. I called Mom to let her know; she had already heard the news.
When I asked her how she felt about the SCOTUS decision, she replied with disdain, "This is not the world I want to leave for my grandchildren and great grandchildren."
Reflecting how much progress had been made in winning reproductive health rights until the SCOTUS decision, it became crystal clear the fight to keep these rights will never stop.
People's personal health cannot become someone else's to rule, and here in California it won't. Because my nieces and nephews cannot enter adulthood with less rights than those of us who paved the way before them.
As your Governor, I will make sure California sets the example in upholding states' rights for quality, affordable, and accessible reproductive health care.
With you every step of this fight,
Betty
