john,
Three years ago today, a Trump-packed Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade: The right to abortion care.
This historic, devastating decision marked the beginning of a plethora of anti-abortion legislation from extreme lawmakers all across the nation.
From Florida's six-week ban to Texas' cruel and unusual bounty hunter law–which allows private citizens to sue doctors or anyone involved in helping a woman access abortion care–American women have lost their autonomy, safety, privacy, and even their lives because they are now unable to access basic, fundamental healthcare.
john, I want to be crystal clear about something: Abortion IS healthcare. It's a procedure that not only saves lives, but also allows women to have control over their own bodies. No judge and no legislator should ever have the right to tell you—or anyone else seeking medical care—what to do with your body. This is especially important when a pregnancy is no longer viable or could cost a woman her life.
This issue is not going away. As drafted now, Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill” defunds Planned Parenthood and prevents Affordable Care Act insurance policies from paying for abortion care. Meanwhile, states across the country are enacting even more serious bans with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.
As a doctor, I took an oath to protect your health, and as your Congresswoman, I took an oath to protect your rights. No matter what kind of agenda Trump and his extremist allies try to push, I will always fight for your right to make your own healthcare choices. Healthcare decisions should be made by patients and their doctors. Not Trump, not a conservative Supreme Court, and not politicians.
Even though three years have passed, we cannot forget about the women who have already suffered. On today's anniversary, I'm asking you to chip in $10, or anything you can, to help me continue the fight for reproductive freedom, and stand against those who are still working to strip women of their rights. >>
