Hi John, I’m Democrat Shenna Bellows.

As Maine’s Secretary of State, I issued a decision that declared Donald Trump ineligible to be on the ballot because of his incitement of the January 6 insurrection. 

I know many on the right are now trying to rewrite history, claiming that day was “a day of love,” as the president put it. But the truth is, it was a violent insurrection that resulted in the deaths and injuries of police officers, threatened our elected representatives, and betrayed the values this country stands for.

Immediately after my decision to hold Trump accountable, my family and I were targeted, threatened, and even harassed.  

But I stayed in the office and did my job. Because Mainers elected me to do right by them, and by the law of the land.

And as governor, I'll bring that same commitment to work with me every single day.

I won't back down from making difficult decisions.

I won’t bow down to Donald Trump and his extreme allies. 

And I won't sell out middle class families while billionaires get richer. I'll fight for affordable healthcare, quality education, and good-paying jobs right here in Maine.
