Hi there, it’s Janelle. In a moment, I’m going to ask you to chip in to support my 2026 re-election campaign. But before I do that, I want to tell you more about who I am and why I first ran for Congress. I grew up in a working-class family as the granddaughter of a police officer and the daughter of two teachers. As I child, I had an interest in engineering, and this led me to receive a college scholarship to study electrical engineering. After working at General Motors, I transitioned to running a small business with my husband. Together, we operated four restaurants in our community and provided new opportunities to our employees and mentorship. Then, I went on to serve my community in the Oregon State Legislature. I was proud to fight for Oregonians and ensure their voices were heard, but I knew I had to do more if I was going to build a better future for the next generation. With encouragement from my mom, I decided to run for Congress. Now, I’m honored to be serving my first term in the House as Oregon’s first Black U.S. Representative. I’m working to bring down costs, protect critical programs from Republicans’ attacks, and defend our democracy. I’m proud of the work I’ve accomplished in just a few short months, and I’m determined to continue fighting for the next generation in Congress.
