John,
Three years ago today, the Supreme
Court overturned Roe v.
Wade — and with the stroke
of a pen, they stripped away a woman’s constitutional right to make
her own, personal health care decisions.
This verdict opened the door for
states to restrict abortion access or ban it entirely. And since then,
that is exactly what we’ve seen happen. Anti-choice judges and
extremist politicians are routinely attacking abortion access,
endangering the lives of millions of women while challenging the
authority of licensed doctors to prescribe FDA-approved
medications.
In New York, we’re standing firm. As Governor, I’m doing everything in my
power to protect women, their healthcare providers and the fundamental
right to choose. I will never stop fighting to ensure that abortion
remains legal, safe, and accessible for all.

I knew that if Roe was overturned, we’d have to be ready. That’s why over the past
three years – I’ve worked hard to make sure New York
remains a safe harbor for those who need reproductive health care —
including an abortion:
- Launching a nation-leading $35
million Abortion Provider Support Fund
-
Securing a five-year stockpile of
abortion medication misoprostol
-
Enacting new laws to protect
out-of-state patients and the doctors who serve them
-
Expanding access to abortion
medication on SUNY and CUNY campuses
No matter what happens in
Washington or at the Supreme Court, New York will remain a safe harbor
for abortion care.
Because in New York, we’re not just
protecting reproductive rights. We’re advancing them. To anyone who
tries to strip away our fundamental freedoms, I have a clear
message:
Not here, not now, not ever.
Ever Upward,
Gov. Kathy Hochul
