Let me introduce you to Deputy Jacob Diaz, his fiancée (who is also a deputy), and their 3-year-old son in the picture I’ve sent you.
Jacob is a three-year veteran of the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, and he grew up in a law enforcement family proudly serving their community.
Now, he faces life in prison for doing his duty and following his training.
Friend, this charge is shocking, and even ridiculous once you know the facts.
In June 2024, Deputy Jacob Diaz responded to a late-night report of a young man walking in an intoxicated manner along the median of a busy highway.
When Diaz arrived on the scene, the individual repeatedly ignored his instructions to stay back and show his hands.
Instead, the young man quickly walked towards the deputy and drew out what appeared to be a firearm raising it shoulder high. In response, Deputy Diaz followed his training and fired his weapon.
Even after falling to the ground, the individual continued to ignore the officer’s order to remain still and started moving towards the perceived firearm.
Once again, following his training and fearing for his life, Deputy Diaz discharged his firearm and the individual was killed.
An administrative investigation on behalf of the New Mexico State Police was completed and submitted – finding Deputy Diaz had followed his training and had sufficient cause to stop the young man and defend himself after the perceived threat to his life.
And because the investigation cleared him, Jacob was reinstated as an officer on the force.
But out of the blue, an anti-police prosecutor charged Deputy Diaz with first-degree murder.
You can imagine the absolute shock Jacob and his fiancée had when receiving the news.
After four months of being cleared of any fault and being back on the force, if convicted, he faces life in prison.
Tearing a 3-year-old little boy away from his father for the rest of his life.
Friend, that’s something no child should have to endure.
But this isn’t the first time a good officer in New Mexico has been targeted with a false charge. You will remember Soros-funded Attorney General Jose Garza is trying to lock up Officer Brad Lunsford under phony charges of manslaughter.
These politically motivated attacks against our men and women in blue must stop.
That’s why the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) has committed to supporting Deputy Diaz in his fight for justice.
As a faithful supporter of law enforcement, can I count on you to renew your support and stand with Deputy Jacob Diaz?
