When Republican Rep. Thomas Massie introduced a resolution last week that would block Donald Trump from going to war with Iran, I was one of the first members of the House to sign on.
That’s because Americans on both sides of the aisle strongly oppose the prospect of more needless, endless wars in the Middle East.
But that wasn’t always the case, Jo.
For a long time, people like me have paid a political price for advocating for peace, diplomacy, and justice as the path forward for US foreign policy.
The entire establishment supported the Iraq War back in the early 2000s. Politicians and media figures across the spectrum believed the lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. And as a result, thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians lost their lives.
But now the American people can see the damage caused by US military intervention. They understand that nobody wins when we use violence and force to destabilize people and communities around the world, and that includes Iran.
In fact, a recent poll showed that only 16% of Americans support US military intervention in Iran.
Jo, I have always forcefully spoken against — and voted against — war and bloodshed, from Iraq, to Gaza, to Ukraine, and now in Iran. I am asking you to support me today and help me show that there is a political price to pay for supporting needless wars, not opposing them.
Please, chip in to my campaign today and help us continue to drive forward our pro-peace, anti-war movement. I am proud to be a vote against war in Congress, but I need your help to protect this seat and keep up our fight for justice.
