Supreme Court Rules Federal Civil Rights Law Protects LGBTQ+ Workers

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that existing federal civil rights protections forbids job discrimination against LGBTQ+ workers. The decision said that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which makes it illegal for employers to discriminate based on a person’s sex, also covers sexual orientation.

The Feminist Majority Foundation Applauds Supreme Court Decision on DACA

Yesterday, by a ruling of 5-4, the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In a major win for the immigrant rights movement, the ruling will allow almost 700,000 “Dreamers” who were brought to the U.S. as children to remain in the country they call home.

Tennessee Legislature Passes Bill Banning Abortion After Fetal Heartbeat Is Detected

On Friday, the Tennessee legislature passed a bill banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected – generally after 6 weeks of gestation. The bill was passed as part of larger budget negotiations held between Tennessee’s two legislative chambers. Its passage came as a shock to many pro-choice advocates, as the bill was not on the legislative agenda. The bill is expected to be signed into law by Republican Gov. Bill Lee.
