This is a huge week on Capitol Hill, but all of Oklahoma is currently saying, “THUNDER UP!” We are so proud of our Thunder team, the fans, and the huge victory. This program has been built from the ground up over 17 years to win a championship. Enjoy the moment. The next season begins in three months!

Last weekend, President Trump asked our military to do what needed to be done to prevent Iran from producing and using a nuclear weapon. While a peaceful solution is always preferable, the President demonstrated peace through strength and ensured that American lives and the lives of our allies came first. Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, and there is NO question now that they have had a nuclear weapons program for years. The IAEA noted at the end of May that Iran could be days away from producing enough weapons-grade uranium for their first bomb. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I am grateful to our national security personnel and our military for keeping us safe. I am grateful to President Trump for continuing to put America first. That said, I encourage my family, my staff, and those around me to pray for peace in that region.

In the Senate this week, we are working through the details of the bill to lower taxes and reduce spending. Senate leadership, which I'm a member of, wants to complete our version of the bill before July 4 so we can send it back to the House for final passage and then to President Trump’s desk to sign it into law as soon as possible. Senate Republicans are pushing for as many spending reductions and tax reforms as possible to help American families and businesses.

Not every Republican thinks alike on every issue, but it is important that we include as many spending reductions as we can while still getting 51 votes in the Senate. Oklahomans know that a smaller, more efficient federal government is better for the nation. We cannot fix everything in one bill, but the final product we are working on this week is a great first step.

We are also working through key nominations including one for the Federal Communications Commission this week.

Please keep praying for the nation, praying for peace in the Middle East, and praying for discernment and wisdom for all of our nation's leaders as we do the people's work
